The Stormzy effect

“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” – Proverbs 18:16 NKJV

ACCORDING TO new figures released last week, the number of black students who were taken as undergraduates at Cambridge University rose to more than 3% for the first time. This surge has been attributed to the grime artist Stormzy who last year announced that he will fund two black students to go to Cambridge. His Scholarship pays for tuition fees and provides a maintenance grant for living expenses.

In an interview with BBC radio, the rapper said, “In school and college I had the ability and was almost destined to go to one of the top universities…But that didn’t happen for myself… so hopefully there’s another young black student out there that can have that opportunity. through my scholarship.”

Do you have a dream or an agenda that you want to see accomplished in society? If so, look at what it says in Proverbs 18:16, “A person’s gift makes room for him, and leads him before important people” (NET Bible). In other words, your talent/gift will enable to you gain a platform that you never previously had. Stormzy’s gift of rapping has allowed him to rise to fame to the point where he can now sponsor students to go to a world-class university.

What is your gift? What if you were able to use your gift to put across a Godly agenda? That should be our goal as believers. God has given each of us a skill/talent (see Matthew 25:14–30) and he expects a return on that investment.

Daniel had the ability of interpreting dreams and as a result he rose up to the high ranks of Government despite being in a Babylonian system – and affected the laws of the land because he gained favour with the King (see Daniel Chapter 6). You also the ability to do the same, so as you begin a new week, I want you to fully immerse yourself in the skills and gifts that God has deposited in you because it will make room for you and bring you before great men!
