“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” – Matthew 28:19 NIV

“WE ARE unstoppable, a better world is possible!” That was the chant of hundreds of university and high school students in the Philippines who skipped school on September 20th to join Global protests against climate change, in the run to a UN Summit in New York. Millions of school children and adults took to the streets in more than 130 countries around the world, with support from unions, churches, and local community groups. Some were calling it the biggest mass protest in the history of the climate change crisis.

In a generation where young people are making the news for the wrong reasons (gun, knife crime etc.) it’s refreshing to see young people at the frontlines of a major world issue that affects us all. Despite all this however, Climate change will have no impact on what happens to us after we depart from this fallen world. So while such protests are laudable it’ll be wrong to be ignorant of the fact that the enemy can use such issues to steer the world from the issue that will really save lives – which is mankind’s need of a Saviour. Indeed, the Bible says, “The god of this age [Satan] has blinded the minds of unbelievers…” (2 Corinthians 4:4 NIV).

Forasmuch as the world is kicking up a storm about cutting back on greenhouse emissions, there is little or no fanfare about the fact that unless one is born again, they won’t be able to enter God’s Kingdom and have everlasting life.

And this should be our burdens as Christians – to go to all four corners of the world – just like those protesting against climate change and “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-19 NIV).

Therefore, this week take a leaf from the global climate strike and become a willing troop who will stand and proclaim the name of the living God to anyone who will listen. The Great Commission awaits, so act now!
