“…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT

AFTER SEVERAL delays, tweaks and snippets, fans of Kayne West finally got to hear the Grammy winner’s new album, “Jesus is King.” The record, which was finally released last Friday caps off a year in which the rapper has conducted weekly Sunday services, that feature gospel-inspired remixes of classic songs of different genres and a gospel choir.

Although West has always had Christ-centred themes running throughout his discography to some degree or another – this record marks a stark change from his 2013 album Yeezus where he had singles such as “I Am A God”, which some considered as blasphemous, to now where he has declared himself as a born again Christian who wants to spread the gospel around the world.

Kayne’s transformation may be stunning to some but there is an example of someone in the Bible who was very much opposed against Christian views and was transformed, and his name was Saul – who later became known the Apostle Paul. Having previously breathed murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples, he found himself on the road to Demascus ready to hand out another arrest warrant when he was suddenly dazed by a blinding flash of light, and the Lord interrupted his journey and caused him to be blinded for three days (Acts 9:1-9 MSG).

From then on his life was changed forever as he began to preach Jesus as the Son of God – the opposite of what he had previously stood for – not only that,  but he ended up writing most of the New Testament Bible.  So you can see similarities to Kayne West where the rapper had gone from proclaiming that he himself was a God to now declaring that “Jesus is king” in his album title.

Is there someone in your life – a sibling, a work colleague, a neighbour or even your spouse that is need of a transformation? The Bible says, that “anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.” Moreover, the writer (Apostle Paul) says that the “old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT)

Therefore as we begin a new week, make it a point to intercede and pray for that person who you’ve had your mind on and have faith that their old life will pass away and that they’ll be a new person because if it happened to Paul and Kayne – it can happen to them too. All you have to do is believe and watch God work!
