“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26

WHEN LEICESTER CITY football club won the English Premier League in 2016 it was one of the biggest underdog stories in sporting history. In fact, before the football season had even started some bookmakers had priced Leicester at odds of 5000-1 to win the league. So, when the “impossible” happened and they won, it lead to ecstatic celebrations all over the city. Indeed, Leicester’s story was turned into a book called, “5000-1” which became a UK best-seller.

What odds are you currently facing in life? Have you been told by the doctors that your condition is terminal? Do you have a mountain of debt that you cannot pay? Is your lack of qualifications hindering you from getting a job? For some of you reading this, the list may seem endless. Moreover, with the pandemic we are living in right now – the odds that you are facing may even be more stacked up against you. However, with God there is hope. What’s more, throughout the Bible there are several “impossible” and implausible situations that were overcome.

Take Abraham and Sarah. Both were way past the age of childbearing – yet one of the Lord’s messengers said to Abraham, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son” (Genesis 18:10). Sarah, who overheard, could hardly believe it, so she laughed to herself silently. But lo and behold, three chapters later (Genesis 21) just as the Lord had promised, Sarah become pregnant and gave birth to Isaac. Amazing right? Just imagine, in today’s society if a 90-year-old woman gave birth to a child, she’ll probably end up on the cover of every magazine going! Think about it – in logical, scientific, and medical terms it would seem unimaginable. If you even tried to place odds in the bookies – they would probably laugh you off and reject it. But you see, just as Jesus told his disciples, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

Therefore, be of good cheer as you read this and know that whatever you are facing right now is not the be all and end all. God is at hand. He is a God that you cannot bet against because He will always deliver on his promises when all signs will say otherwise. All you must do is believe and do not depend and rely on your own understanding because we serve a God of ALL possibilities!
